The staff at Camp Gabriels would like to extend this thank you to all of the area towns, villages and other municipalities whose town offices and highway departments  have sent letters of support and encouragement. We would also like to thank the many state agencies such as Sunmount, DEC, State recreation and Parks and the APA, as well as numerous non-profit groups like the Boy Scouts / Girl Scouts, schools, fire departments, fish and game clubs for their continued support.

             We believe that the decision of the Governor to once again target us for closure was hastily made and based on inaccurate information from the Department of Corrections.  Governor Paterson needs to hear the facts about the benefits of Camp Gabriels continued operation from you, the tax payers who lives in an area that will see an increase in property tax rates to subsidize the loss of both the crew work and the employees that will be forced to move.

According to the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce’s newspaper article that was based on numbers given by Department of Corrections Public Relations Officer Eric Kriss, the loss of Camp Gabriels will result in the annual loss of nearly 37 million dollars for the area communities.
